Developers are making good progress with the application

Cemu, the new Wii U emulator that’s being built right now, has been getting a lot of improvements since its initial launch, and it’s not possible to launch Mario Kart 8.

The progress made by developers with Cemu is considerable, especially since they are doing all of their work from scratch. We covered the release of the initial version 1.0 back in October, although it felt a little bit of a stretch since games are not running it just yet.

In any case, the developers of Cemu promised to update the application every two weeks, and they kept their word. The latest update made to Cemu allows users to start Mario Kart 8 and run it at a decent framerate. It’s true that it’s still not in a playable state and there is a lot of work left to be done, but it proves that it can be possible.

Making a Wii U emulator is a really difficult task since the original hardware uses a CPU / GPU solution put together by AMD, IBM Renesas in co-operation with Nintendo IRD and Nintendo Technology Development.

Basically, it’s a nightmare for developers who try to make games for the hardware, and you can only imagine how hard it is to emulate this on an X86 architecture.

Mario Kart 8 on PC? Just take my money

From the reactions we’ve seen so far coming from the community, people would gladly buy games like Mario Kart 8 just to play it on the PC, but it seems that Nintendo is not really interested in this market.

Many of the Wii-exclusive games are really good, especially the ones with anything Mario in front of the name, and it looks like Cemu is the only chance of ever playing them on the PC. You can check the video below for more details about the progress being made.
