14 DAY TRIAL // The team behind popular instant messenger WhatsApp has recently launched a new update on Android platform that brings lots of new features and improvements.
Since we have already reported on the changes included in the newest version of WhatsApp, you can take a look at our previous article and learn about what's new.
However, WhatsApp hid some changes in the update, which we only learned of recently. According to a thread on Reddit, the newest version of WhatsApp Messenger blocks links to Telegram, another messaging alternative for Android, iOS and Windows Phone users.
We have tested whether or not this information is accurate and noticed that WhatsApp Messenger does not recognize links to Telegram.
We have used the latest version of the application, 2.12.367, but some users have tried sending Telegram links with previous versions of WhatsApp.
It looks like any WhatsApp Messenger version prior to 2.12.367 allows users to send Telegram links, so if you need this feature, then do not update to the newest version.
No official statement from WhatsApp yet
Although the new change in WhatsApp might have gone unnoticed by many users, most of those who learn of it are now willing to switch to Telegram Messenger, which is said to offer a more secure messaging communication.
WhatsApp hasn't offered any explanations for this change that hasn't been mentioned in the latest update's changelog. We also don't know whether or not WhatsApp now blocks links to other instant messengers or applications, but we will probably find out in the coming weeks.
Telegram Messenger has been under fire lately because of its alleged involvement in the Paris terrorist attacks. Apparently, the application offers a strong encryption that was used by terrorists to plan the attacks in France's capital.
This is probably one of the reasons WhatsApp has decided to block Telegram links in its instant messenger, but take this as a simple assumption for now.
