Here's what you should and shouldn't eat in the morning

If there's one thing we humans can't live without - well, except for oxygen and a decent Internet connection - that's food. What's interesting is that, as important as food is to our survival, we're still working on figuring out how best to make the most of it.

Take breakfast, for instance. Some say we're better off with just a cup of coffee bright and early in the morning, others say we shouldn't let a day go by without indulging in a ginormous omelette or at least a big bowl of cereal before heading out to work.

Sorry to disappoint you, but according to brainiacs with the American Chemical Society, pancakes topped with chocolate or maple syrup do not a proper breakfast make. Neither do cupcakes, biscuits or anything of the kind, no matter how tasty they might be.

As it turns out, the best things to eat in the morning are carbohydrates or proteins. Mind you, not just any carbohydrates. It's those that come in grains, fruits and veggies that you should opt for. As for proteins, you can always go for eggs or light meat.

The reason eating carbohydrates should be on your menu every morning is that they provide your brain with the energy it needs to get you through the day. Proteins, on the other hand, help keep you satiated and control your appetite.
