Users expect more from Windows in terms of personalization

The Windows 10 Start menu does come with several customization options, but more advanced settings are missing for now, including tweaks that would allow users to further adjust its look.

And posts in the Windows 10 Feedback app prove that Windows 10 users actually want and need such customization options for their desktops, which should help give the operating system a more personal touch.

One of the trending feature requests in the Feedback app right now calls for Microsoft to “allow users to customize the color of the tiles” on both the Start menu and the Start screen, as right now, the color is automatically picked by the operating system, along with the icon. Users can only choose the size of the tile, but for Win32 apps, the final look still needs plenty of refinements.

On Windows 10, all Start menu customization options are hidden under one single menu in Settings > Personalization > Start.

Here you can find options to show more tiles (this is actually the setting that allows you to enable a fourth column of live tiles in the Start menu - a change that was brought by the November Update released last month) as well as to occasionally show suggestions in Start (often called by users “ads,” these suggestions are actually app recommendations based on the downloads you made in the store).

Additionally, you can enable or disable some Start menu sections, such as the most used and the recently added apps, but also toggle between the Start menu and the Start screen, as some people seem to like the Windows 8.1-inspired feature more.

And last but not least, you can show recently opened items in jump lists in Start or the taskbar and choose which folders appear in the Start menu.

Overall, it’s pretty clear that more Start menu customization options are needed, and hopefully, Microsoft hears these suggestions and makes more settings available in the coming updates.
