The good folks over at VideoLAN have just released another version of their VLC media player for Windows Phone 8.1. As expected, the new version comes with additional features, improvements, and lots of bug fixes.

Keep in mind though that this update is only aimed at the Windows Phone 8.1 version of VLC. According to the official changelog, VLC 1.8 comes with a new translation system, since French language has been added.

But that's not the only important change included in this update. VLC users should know that artist biographies are now saved in the SQL database.

There's also a new feedback system at their disposal, which should make it easier for users to offer their impressions on the application.

A new context menu has been added in the Video Player, and there are a lot more personalisation options, like accent colors, background colors and titlebar.

Also, buttons and texts are bigger on small screens. Slideshow has been updated, and new animations have been added as well.

Lots of tweaks and bug fixes

New Video Player zoom options have been included, so users will now be able to take advantage of Vertical Zoom and Horizontal Zoom.

Developers have also confirmed that some settings are synced between devices. Minor UI fixes have been implemented, along with some fixes.

For example, developers have fixed duplicate Current Track in the Playlist issue, as well as the crash at launch when another app was sending a stream that was considered a file.

A new vlc:// protocol has been added, and slideshow should now be paused when the application is in the background.

If you don't have the application yet, you can now download VLC for Windows Phone 8.1 for free via Windows Store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices powered by Windows Phone 8.1.
