14 DAY TRIAL // Vivaldi's Ruarí Ødegaard has announced earlier the release and immediate availability for testing of what appears to be one of the last snapshots before the final build of the upcoming Vivaldi 1.0 web browser.
According to Mr. Ødegaard, Vivaldi 1.0, which will be based on the latest stable release of the open-source Chromium web browser, should arrive very soon, in the next weeks or so, and it will be supported on all major platforms, including GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows.
Today's snapshot of Vivaldi, build 1.0.435.5, promises to improve the built-in data import support, including the passwords that have been protected by a master password for users migrating from the Opera 12 web browser, as well as to fix an issue with the bookmarklets.
"We are very close to our first stable release now. In fact, many of you have told us that you are already using this as your main browser," says Ruarí Ødegaard, Linux QA and Testing at Vivaldi. "Once version 1.0 is out the door, there will be regular updates and work will continue. This means further bug fixing and further features."
Vivaldi 1.0 to arrive soon for Linux, Mac, and Windows
Vivaldi Snapshot 1.0.435.5 is currently based on Chromium 49.0.2623.110, the latest stable version of the open-source web browser on which Google Chrome is based, and we believe that the final Vivaldi 1.0 version will be too. However, for now, Vivaldi remains a proprietary web browser, like Opera.
