It looks like Valve has finally decided to pay attention to its Android Steam client as well. The application was released a few years ago, but it's been rarely updated with important, new features.

Well, that's about to change since Valve has just released Steam 2.0 in Google Play Store. Apart from the fact that this is a major jump in app version (from 1.1 to 2.0), the update contains lots of new features, improvements and bug fixes.

For long time users the most obvious change is the new UI, which seems to have been refreshed entirely.

According to the official changelog, which hasn't been published on Google Play store yet, the update brings some Material Design, higher resolution images, simplified settings, as well as performance improvements on older Android devices.

Among the many improvements that Valve included in this update, it's worth mentioning that transitions from one screen to another are now much faster than in any of the previous versions.

Valve also confirmed that tweak Steam for Android so that it will not use battery when it is inactive and it will not log in unexpectedly.

Furthermore, if possible, when resumed, the application will return to the screen it was on. The official changelog also confirms that the startup screen can be set.

Navigation drawer has been fully reorganized

Also, the navigation menu now has links to Inventory, Library, going offline for chat, as well as logging out.

Last but not least, some new features have been implemented such as chat history from other devices, as well as chat history for offline friends. Other fixes have been implemented too.

If you don't have the application yet, you can now download Steam for Android for free via Google Play Store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices powered by Android 2.2 and up.
