Univention's Maren Abatielos has been very happy to inform Softpedia earlier today, October 6, about the general availability of the first milestone of the upcoming Univention Corporate Server (UCS) 4.1 Linux kernel-based operating system.

Prominent features of Univention Corporate Server 4.1 will include the addition of Docker-based applications in the App Center, the implementation of SSO (Single Sign-On) authentication via SAML (Security Assertion Markup Language), as well as new package versions, such as Samba 4.3 and Linux kernel 4.1 LTS. The LDAP packages have been updated as well in this development version.

By implementing Docker-based apps into the distribution, there will be no more issues with conflicts between different versions of a software library. The open-source Docker Linux container engine will make sure that the deployment of apps in Univention Corporate Server 4.1 is greatly simplified by using dedicated containers.

"I hope you are great. We are, because we've just released the first milestone of UCS 4.1 as DVD-ISO for amd64. The final release of UCS 4.1 is planned for mid of November," says Maren Abatielos for Softpedia. "Highlights are Docker-based apps in the App Center, single sign-on via SAML and many updates incl. for the kernel, Samba and LDAP."

Another interesting feature in UCS 4.1 will be that the Univention Corporate Server management system will support the new built-in Single Sign-On via SAML authentication technology out of the box. This is a business feature for all customers of the Debian-based UCS server-oriented operating system, enabling them to use single logins to the environment.

While the final release of the Univention Corporate Server 4.1 operating system is planned for mid-November 2015, uses can download the first milestone release right now from Softpedia and take the Linux kernel-based OS for a test drive. Just try to keep in mind that this is a pre-release version, not suitable for deployment on production environments.
