The development team at Naughty Dog and publisher Sony have offered fans a first look at the multiplayer that will be part of the coming Uncharted 4: A Thief's End during the Paris Games Week. Now the two companies are eager to provide us with some extra details about the experience that is supposed to keep the title engaging in the long term.

Following one of the biggest trends in the industry, the title will integrate a full range of microtransactions from the start, with gamers able to pick up a special currency using real-world money before spending it on a variety of items.

Robert Cogburn, who is the lead multiplayer designer, is quoted by Gamespot as stating, "Microtransactions will be available at launch, but we’ll have no gameplay items that will be gated through microtransactions."

Naughty Dog is probably aiming to deliver a range of cosmetic items to allow interested gamers to personalize their characters and make them clearly visible on the battlefield.

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End will also lack any sort of dedicated multiplayer servers and will use a peer-to-peer structure.

One player will always serve as host, and the development team has not explained how it plans to handle a situation where they quit or have technical trouble that means they abandon the match.

Naughty Dog is not saying the kind of matchmaking system that the shooter will use in order to keep games as balanced as possible.

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End multiplayer will feature about eight maps

The number is just a target at the moment, and an official announcement will be made closer to the moment when the title is launched.

Naughty Dog also has plans to evaluate how the player base reacts to the already complete environments during the beta testing period that will take place in early December on the PlayStation 4, featuring the Team Deathmatch mode.

Cogburn says that none of the next maps for Uncharted 4: A Thief's End will be a remake of those seen in previous titles.

Gamers who want to take part will need to use one of the codes that are included in the Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection.

Vehicles will not be featured in the multiplayer at launch, but they might make an appearance later, with the maps big enough for cars and maybe even bikes.

The reveal trailer suggests that the action will be centered around teams, with gamers able to hire Sidekicks that can provide cover fire and also track enemies as they move across the map.

A number of powerful mystical artifacts from previous games in the series will also be featured, allowing players to take out a lot of opponents with one move.

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End will be offered on March 18 of next year only on the PlayStation 4.

The single-player campaign will be centered on a semi-retired Nathan Drake who joins up with his lost brother to search for a fabled pirate treasure and in the process has to protect the ones he loves from a powerful threat.
