Seattle Chaz, one of the developers behind the Ubuntu Studio operating system, has recently announced that the wallpaper contest for the upcoming Ubuntu Studio 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) OS has started, inviting all artists to submit their work now.

As many of you might already know by reading our latest Linux news, Canonical is preparing this year for the fourth LTS (Long-Term Support) release of the world's most popular free operating system, Ubuntu Linux, dubbed Xenial Xerus.

As expected, Ubuntu Studio 16.04 will also be a long-term supported release, so its maintainers decided that it was time to add a fresh look to the GNU/Linux distribution targeted at audio, video and graphic enthusiasts, as well as professionals.

So, they put up a wallpaper contest where artists can submit their beautiful works to be included in the final release of Ubuntu Studio 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus). Each artist will be able to submit up to four wallpapers.

"The contest is open to all Digital Artists and Amateurs, most especially Ubuntustudio enthusiasts. We hope to collect the coolest, most beautiful, inspiring, innovative and downright slick desktop wallpapers," reads the reddit announcement.

Only 16 wallpapers will become winners

During the contest, the Ubuntu Studio community will be able to vote for their favorite wallpaper, but only 16 will be chosen for the final Ubuntu Studio 16.04 LTS release, which promises to offer an excellent customer experience on the desktop.

But there are some rules, so we strongly recommend that you read them at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuStudio/Artwork/UserShowcase before submitting your work for the Ubuntu Studio 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) wallpaper contest.

Unfortunately, Ubuntu Studio 16.04 LTS was not part of the Alpha 1 release for opt-in flavors announced on January 4, 2016, but it will most certainly be available for Beta testing in February and March. The final release of Ubuntu Studio 16.04 LTS will land on April 21, 2016.
