Therefore, among the new features introduced in this second and final Beta build of the upcoming Ubuntu Studio 16.04 LTS operating system and official Ubuntu flavor designed for artists of all kinds, we can mention the adoption of the Whisker Menu for the Xfce desktop environment, and a new font, Noto, which replaces the old Droid one.

Furthermore, the desktop interactions have received multiple improvements, the FFMpeg multimedia framework has been adopted, replacing the libav library, numerous other pre-installed apps have received updates, including Ardour 4, despite the fact that the package is called ardour3.

"We are preparing Ubuntu Studio Xenial Xerus (16.04) LTS for distribution on April 21st, 2016. With this Beta 2 pre-release, you can see what we are trying out in preparation for our next (LTS) version. We have some interesting things happening," reads today's announcement.

The Applications Menu has been reorganized

In addition to the changes mentioned above, the Ubuntu Studio devs have also managed to reorganize the Application Menu and move from a total of five application categories to only three: audio, video, and graphics. Also, the ubuntustudio-controls utility is now fully functional and can be used for administering real-time privileges for users.

Download Ubuntu Studio 16.04 LTS Beta 2 for 64-bit or 32-bit computers right now from our website. Please note that you won't be able to upgrade from Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) at this time.
