Martin Wimpress, the lead developer, creator, and maintainer of the Ubuntu MATE operating system, had the great pleasure of informing us about the contributions made to various open source projects during the month of August 2015.

In the development cycle of open-source projects, everything is transparent, from the work done by the developers of the respective projects to the amount of money they receive from donations made by members of the community and how all these funds are spent.

At the beginning of each month, the Ubuntu MATE project always makes a public statement where the developers of the distribution send their love to the community for the donations made during the month that just passed, and inform them about where the money will go.

Therefore, in August 2015, the Ubuntu MATE project donated $50 to the VLC Media Player project, €50 to the OpenBSD project, and for the first time ever, a donation was made directly to a person, Mike Gabriel, who received $198 for being involved in the development of the Debian GNU/Linux OS and MATE desktop environment.

"Many thanks to everyone who donated to the Ubuntu MATE community this month. For August 2015 Ubuntu MATE has sponsored OpenBSD and VLC. We are therefore delighted to be able to donate €50 to OpenBSD and $50 to VLC," says Martin Wimpress. "This month we've donated directly to one of the Debian developers."

Where will the rest of the money go?!

The rest of the money received from donations made by members of the Ubuntu MATE community will be used to pay the bills, more precisely the project's hosting and development server costs, as well as the CDN, bandwidth and email charges for the month of August 2015. Next month, more open-source projects will receive money from Ubuntu MATE.
