14 DAY TRIAL // Mark Greaves from the Peppermint project has had the great pleasure of announcing the release and immediate availability for download of the first respin of the Ubuntu-based Peppermint OS 6 Linux distribution.
Peppermint OS 6 Respin is an updated version of the original Peppermint OS 6 GNU/Linux operating system announced back in May. The Peppermint OS developers didn't see the need to make a point release, and instead they rebuilt the Live ISO images of Peppermint OS 6 with full support for UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) on the 64-bit edition.
In addition to the UEFI support, the new Peppermint OS 6 Respin build incorporates support for Secure Boot and GUID Partition Table (GPT) technologies, along with an improved version of the ICE Site Specific Browser framework, bringing support for Mozilla Firefox, Chromium, and Google Chrome web browsers.
"The Peppermint 6 feedback we’ve received so far has been overwhelmingly positive (thank you), so we’ve not made any major software or UX changes this time around, we hope the UEFI support opens up Peppermint 6 to a whole group of users and we’d love to hear from you at the Peppermint forum," says Mark Greaves.
The Peppermix-Dark theme has received improvements
Peppermint OS 6 Respin also adds various optimizations to the Peppermix-Dark theme at the request of the users. All the updates that were released since June 1, 2015 and until September 7, 2015 have been included in the new build of Peppermint OS 6 as well. Numerous other minor bugs have been addressed too.
While existing Peppermint OS 6 users will get all the aforementioned changes via the built-in software updater utility of the distribution, new users can download Peppermint OS 6 Respin right now via Softpedia or directly from the distro's website. The distro is available for download for free as Live CD ISO images supporting 32-bit and 64-bit computers.
