In the first minutes of January 14, 2016, Łukasz Zemczak of Canonical sent in his daily report to inform us all about the latest work done by the Ubuntu Touch developers in preparation for the upcoming OTA-9 software update, due for release on January 27.

According to Mr. Zemczak, the day of January 13 was quite exciting in regard to the updates and new releases pushed to the rc-proposed channel for the Ubuntu Touch mobile operating system, features that will be present in the OTA-9 update. Among these, we can mention a new Unity 8 interface with multiple bugfixes.

The Web Browser app was updated as well, along with the QtUbuntu-Media component, which received a workaround for an annoying issue when the shuffle mode didn't repeat if the repeat option was disabled before enabling the feature, and several automated language-pack updates.

"Using the occasion a small request to all translators: please take a look at our current rc-proposed images and try to catch all those small strings that are still untranslated. We will be doing one more manual langpack upload before building the release candidate to make sure we have all the most up-to-date translations as possible," said Łukasz Zemczak, Ubuntu Foundations.

Release Candidate images of OTA-9 will be available today

Later today, the Ubuntu Touch developers will publish the new custom tarballs of the upcoming OTA-9 software update on the rc-channel for both BQ Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu Edition and BQ Aquaris E5 HD Ubuntu Edition, as well as the Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition phones. The images have passed QA, and users can test it on their devices.

Lastly, Ubuntu Touch developers and landers are being informed by Mr. Zemczak that his colleague Robert Park prepared a separate announcement about the latest changes in the CI Train, as well as the britney integration, which they should read at https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel/2016-January/039088.html.
