After yesterday's report about the latest new features implemented in the upcoming Ubuntu Touch OTA-9 software update for Ubuntu Phones, the Ubuntu Touch development team has decided to delay it for a week.

Therefore, we would like to inform our readers today that the Ubuntu Touch OTA-9 will not arrive, as originally planned, on January 20, 2016. It has been postponed until January 27, due to remaining issues that need to be fixed. As a consequence, the final freeze for OTA-9 has also been delayed until January 15, 2016.

"We apologize for the schedule change but without it we would probably have to re-spin the candidate image anyway, with the final release happening being delayed similarly. This way we can at least spend more time on polishing the image," said Łukasz Zemczak, Ubuntu Foundations.

New Unity 8 interface lands for OTA-9

Earlier today, January 6, we've received Mr. Łukasz Zemczak's daily report for the day of January 5, 2016, which marks the string and feature freeze for the Ubuntu Touch OTA-9 update. In today's report, Mr. Zemczak talks about the new apps and fixes that landed during the day.

Among these, we can mention a new Unity 8 interface with fixes for volume control sync, new versions of the QtMir, QtUbuntu and QtMultimedia packages, an updated version of the Ubuntu Download Manager with a fix for the display of the total size, and a new version of the Indicator Sound.

In the coming days, the Ubuntu Touch team will generate a new device tarball for the Arale branch, patching various battery-drain regressions. Ubuntu Touch devs should keep in mind the fact that the OTA-9 feature and string freeze is now in effect, so only bugfixes are allowed for landing.

Tomorrow we will have more details about the latest updates and bugfixes for Ubuntu Touch OTA-9, which will be released for all supported Ubuntu Phone devices on January 27, 2016.
