14 DAY TRIAL // Canonical has officially released the Ubuntu Touch OTA-9.1 update, and users from around the world should receive it in the next 24 hours.
We've been talking about this update for a couple of weeks already, ever since it became apparent that a nasty buy was affecting the Ubuntu phones. Before the developers were made aware of this issue, they were actually talking about skipping this intermediary upgrade.
The Ubuntu team had to push this upgrade for Ubuntu Touch as soon as possible and even slipped in a few other fixes. The rest of the stuff that was discussed for OTA 9.5 was pushed into OTA 10, which is now expected to land by the end of March if everything goes well.
What's new in the latest update for Ubuntu Touch
As usual, the new update for Ubuntu devices will take 24 hours to spread to all users out there. This is called a phased update and it's in place to ensure that servers are not working overtime. It's also a stop-gap measure if anything goes wrong so that Canonical can pull the plug before too many people are affected.
"We have just copied all the hotfix OTA-9.1 images to the stable channels and started the phased upgrade procedure! This means that in less than 24 hours all users should receive update notifications for this release. As always with hotfix releases, not too many user-visible changes OTA-10 will bring us all the tasty goodies instead. Once again big thanks to everyone participating in this release!" said Canonical's Łukasz Zemczak.
We already covered all of the changes and various small fixes that have landed with this upgrade. Most of them are rather small, but most users want to know if the "Phone not usable while a call comes in, followed by restart" bug has been repaired, and the answer is yes.
Don't go start smashing the "Check for update" button, be patient and wait for it.
