A snapshot PPA will be prepared next week

We have just been informed by Łukasz Zemczak of Canonical about the latest work done by Ubuntu Touch development team in preparation for the upcoming OTA updates for Ubuntu Phone devices.

As we wrote yesterday, the Mir team at Canonical managed to finally patch that nasty issue reported by many Ubuntu Phone users, which rendered their devices unusable during incoming calls, and the Ubuntu Touch team had to find a way to send the patch to users.

Well, today's good news is that they have defined the plans for releasing the Mir critical fix to Ubuntu Phone users, via a small hotfix update called OTA-9.1. However, the bad news is that users will have to wait two more weeks to get it, which some of you out there might find inadmissible.

"This release, let's call it OTA-9.1, will basically include the fix for the annoying crasher on incoming calls that's been a menace for all of our users (+ some security fixes)," said Łukasz Zemczak, Canonical Foundations Team. "We are preparing the snapshot PPA already in preparation for next week already."

OTA-10 work continues

In related news, during the day of February 12, the Ubuntu Touch development team pushed some new updates to the upcoming OTA-10 software release for all supported Ubuntu Phone devices, such as a new platform-api with performance improvements, and a major Messaging App release.

Additionally, there was a new telephony-service release that brought audio and video support for MMS. Being Friday and all that, the Ubuntu Touch team will have their weekend break, so we should have more Ubuntu Phone news on Monday. If it helps, we're sorry that many of you out there will have to wait so long to get a patch for that issue. Happy weekend!
