The latest update for Ubuntu brings quite a few fixes

A new OTA update for Ubuntu Touch has been released, and users should start receiving it right about now.

OTA updates for Ubuntu Touch are released every six weeks or so, and the eighth one was delayed, but only for a day. It wasn't a big problem, and the developers promised to have it fixed, which they already did.

We've already covered what is new in OTA-8, and there are quite a few things. You can check out our report for more details, but one thing will stick out, even if it's not really all that important.

Starting with this update, the proper version of the installed update will be shown, no matter what device is being used. Until now, only Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 were showing the actual version of the OTA update, the other ones weren't. Now that issue has been taken care of.

OTA-8 is being phased

Some of you will notice that other people are getting the OTA update and you don't. This is normal since the updates are being phased within a 24-hour period. This ensures two things. Firstly, if a problem is found, not everyone will be affected since the update process can be stopped. Secondly, the stress on the servers is diminished considerably.

"Hello everyone, As mentioned yesterday, with a slight one-day delay, we have now started the phased update procedure for OTA-8! This means that in less than 24 hours all users should receive update notifications for this release," wrote Canonica's Łukasz 'sil2100' Zemczak in his regular email.

Besides all the new features we mentioned in an earlier article, users will also get a number of fixes and improvements for various other components, the locations accuracy has been improved, the power usage has been reduced when there is no network connection, the call ringtone will now play on speakers with headphones connected, and some of the UI hangs have been reduced.

The work has already started on OTA-9, and it looks like it's gathering some nice new features, including the addition of a copy / paste function for the context menu in the web browser.
