Canonical's Łukasz Zemczak informed the Ubuntu Touch community today, March 24, 2016, about the latest landings that happened this week for the upcoming OTA-10 software update.

As you may well be aware, the Ubuntu Touch OTA-10 update is currently in heavy development, and it should arrive for all supported devices, including the recently unveiled Meizu PRO 5 Ubuntu Edition smartphone and BQ Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition tablet, which will be available for pre-order on March 28, in the first days of the next month.

Today's report of Łukasz Zemczak caught our attention because it mentions the fact that the anticipated out-of-the-box experience for the Unity 8 interface just become reality, bringing dozens of new goodies, such as a new Dash navigation, new side-stage for the Ubuntu tablet, hardware keyboard layouts support, and a desktop mode toggle.

"A really busy landing day today - but also a very fruitful one in the end," said Łukasz Zemczak, Canonical Foundations. "This week (EOW) is Final Freeze for OTA-10. Normally it's planned for Friday but since it's a holiday for multiple countries, we request everyone to have all the needed changes in by the end of tomorrow."

OTA-10 arrives in April

Of course, a lot of other landings happened this week for the OTA-10 update, such as a fix for an issue with Bluetooth pairing in System Settings, an updated Web Browser app with support for Google Maps on tablet form-factors, new libertine, new qtbase distro-patch, new shadow package, and minor updates to Mir and the Address Book app.

Unfortunately, a release date for the OTA-10 update has not yet been set at the moment of writing this article, but Mr. Zemczak wrote a while ago that it will arrive in the first week of April. It will be available, as expected, for all supported Ubuntu Phones. Next week we shall have more details about the development of the Ubuntu Touch mobile OS.
