Marius Gripsgård from the UBports team teased the Ubuntu community today, March 18, 2016, on his Google+ page with a photo of the OnePlus X Android smartphone running the Ubuntu mobile OS.

As usual, we've contacted Marius Gripsgård to learn a few things about the Ubuntu Touch port for OnePlus X like what works at the moment, and when users should expect a fully working port of the Ubuntu mobile operating system for this powerful device, which received the codename "onyx."

For those not in the known, the OnePlus X smartphone was released in October 2015, it has a 5-inch AMOLED screen with Full HD (1080x1920) resolution, a Quad-core 2.3 GHz Krait 400 processor, 3GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, microSD support up to 128GB, 13 MP f/2.2 rear camera, 8 MP f/2.4 selfie camera, and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n.

"It only boots at the moment, no Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GSM, etc. This was the first port created using portcraft, our new tool that will make porting easier," said Marius Gripsgård for Softpedia. "Also, I would recommend not installing this if you don't know what you're doing, it is in a really early state."

Here's how to install Ubuntu Touch on OnePlus X

As noted above, the port is in early stages of development, but we're confident that Marius Gripsgård will work as fast as possible to make the rest of the device's components support the Ubuntu Touch mobile operating system. And, if you don't know what you're doing, you shouldn't install Ubuntu on OnePlus X at this stage.

On the other hand, those who have background knowledge about things like this, can go ahead and install Ubuntu Touch on their OnePlus X phones by following the installations instructions provided by the developers on the project's page, where you'll also be able to donate money for the development.
