14 DAY TRIAL // Canonical's Łukasz Zemczak has sent in his daily report after a short break because of health problems, which are now resolved, to inform us all about the latest work done by the Ubuntu Touch developers.
According to Mr. Zemczak, Oliver Ries Grawert is currently testing the new livecd-rootfs patch, which promises to fix some issues with the Ubuntu Touch build system related to the Android packages distributed in the overlay-ppa, the commit logs are now back, the vivid-overlay LP translation is about to receive the updates from the wily-overlay, and many developers are still struggling after the huge GCC 5 transition.
There's no word on the Ubuntu Touch OTA-5.5 hotfix, but the Ubuntu Touch team is still considering releasing it in order to patch known issues introduced in the OTA-5 major update. However, the QA team is currently in the process of testing the point release, so we should have more news on the subject in the coming days.
"There is still no definite decision regarding a hotfix OTA-5.5. We were considering releasing the existing fixes but it seems that this week QA is a bit busy with the point release testing," says Łukasz Zemczak. "Also, everyone is still really busy dealing with the gcc-5 transition aftermath in our wily touch images. [...] Many brave developers are doing their best to resolve this crisis but this takes time."
The Ubuntu Touch OTA-6 String and Feature Freeze is planned for August 11
Lastly, Mr. Zemczak informs all Ubuntu Touch developers that the String and Feature Freeze for the OTA-6 software update is currently planned for next week, on August 11, 2015, so it is imperative that all devs get started on finishing all the critical features listed on the Ubuntu Touch OTA-6 milestone.
