We've just received a very interesting email from Canonical's David Plannella, who writes about the things achieved by the Ubuntu Community Team during the week that has just passed, keeping everyone up to date.

According to Mr. Plannella, the most interesting part is, of course, about the things that were done for the core apps of the Ubuntu Touch mobile operating system, which has just received new Mir, Unity 8, Ubuntu Download Manager, and Web Browser apps.

Therefore, we can report today that the Weather app reboot has been approved by the QA team and it will land very soon in the Ubuntu Store, replacing the current one, just before the upcoming OTA-7 software update.

The Notes app has been updated with a handful of fixes, mostly related to the user interface and focus handling issues, a bug in the Ubuntu UI Toolkit has been identified and fixed, and work continues on the LibreOffice Docviewer app.

Furthermore, the Music app will receive a background playlist, and the new Media-hub that was announced a while ago contains the implementation for this. A new version of the File Manager will be released as well very soon with support for Samba shares.

Also, the Ubuntu Touch developers are currently in discussions with the Snapcraft developers to find a way for them to support building of Snaps for Ubuntu Touch's core apps.

"We're back with the weekly update and some highlights of what the Ubuntu Community Team at Canonical worked on last week," says David Plannella, Ubuntu Community Manager.

Snapcraft 0.2 has been released, UbuCon Florida announces

UbuCon Florida has been announced, and the search for speakers begins, judging for the Free Culture Showcase and UbuCon.de contests is currently in progress, and the Ubuntu Community Team has managed to coordinate with the UbuCon @ SCALE organizers.

Continuing with Snappy Ubuntu Core, the Ubuntu developers have managed to release version 0.2 of the Snapcraft utility, to prepare and run the first-ever Snappy Clinic, as well as to help with the Snappy Developer Survey.

Last but not least, there's some work done on the Jenkins instance for testing of Ubuntu Touch core apps, as well as various improvements to the developer documentation. The developers are currently preparing on testing the new features for OTA-7.
