14 DAY TRIAL // As reported earlier, Canonical launched the fourth point release of its long-term supported Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) operating system, which is available for download now.
So, as you may know, if you've read our initial report on Ubuntu 14.04.4 LTS, the Linux kernel packages and graphics stack have been updated with support for new hardware, which will not only work on 32-bit (x86) systems, but also on all the other supported architectures.
Therefore, System76, the American computer manufacturer specialized in building laptops, desktops, and servers with the latest Ubuntu Linux operating systems, today announced that they can finally offer Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) to their customers for Intel Skylake-powered systems.
"Ubuntu 14.04.4 LTS (Long Term Support) was released today, which means we can once again offer both 14.04 LTS and 15.10 across our entire product line—including laptops and desktops with Intel 6th generation Skylake processors," said Jason Gerard DeRose, Product Engineer at System76.
Customers can now buy System76 laptops with Ubuntu LTS
If you've previously looked into buying a computer from System76 and you couldn't because it didn't offer an LTS (Long Term Support) version of Ubuntu Linux, now you can, thanks to Canonical's latest Ubuntu backports of the HWE stack (hardware enablement stack).
And the best thing about it is that when Canonical unveils the next major LTS release, Ubuntu 16.04 (Xenial Xerus), you will be able to update your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) laptop in a jiffy. Of course, System76 will also update all of its computer lines to Ubuntu 16.04 LTS when it is released on April 21, 2016.
