The game was build for the PC, it's not a console port

Tom Clancy's The Division is coming out for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and the PC, but some really interesting information recently surfaced that the developers held back the PC version to be on par with consoles. Ubisoft denies it.

The information that The Division has been held back in order to keep the consoles from looking too bad made the round over the weekend. This wasn't a rumor or something dreamed up by a YouTuber with some nice editing skills. It was something straight from Ubisoft's mouth, so the community took it as it was: solid information.

This idea that developers are intentionally handicapping games on the PC platform is not a new one, but now there is some confirmation from a real developer coming from a real company. It's not just a rumor. On the other hand, Ubisoft is telling us that we're wrong and that things must be understood in context.

Tom Clancy's The Division is built of the PC

Ubisoft always said that The Division was not going to be a port from the console version and that it was going to be built from the ground up for this platform. They seem to have respected this part, but a developer working on The Division said the following to YouTubers Team Epiphany, in an interview:

"I've worked on projects before where the PC version's a port from a console, so it carries those limitations over, but we've always been in the mind that we'll have a dedicated PC build, so it hasn't really held it back too much. We do have to kind of keep it in check with consoles because it would kind of be unfair just to push it so far away from them."

This was revealed by the guy over at pcgamesn.com and the PC gaming community didn't like this statement one bit. Ubisoft was quick to respond, with a long phrase that basically says that it's not true. The rest is just marketing fluff.

Tom Clancy's The Division is expected to land on March 8, for the PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
