These days, if you happen to be sitting on a brilliant gadget idea, you can easily set up a nice Kickstarter page for it and hope others will like it and pledge money to your campaign.

It’s the case of Ubik, a startup that has been busy designing its flagship device which is known as the Uno (or One). Unlike other handset campaigns present on Kickstarter, Uno is presented to us completely designed, so we’re asked to fund only the mass production aspect of it.

The Ubik Uno is a pretty good looking smartphone that comes with a metal frame and bezel-free display. Spec-wise, the product isn’t too bad either, being an upper mid-ranger of sorts.

The Ubik Uno is quite a sweet bundle

The handset takes advantage of a 5.5-inch IPS display with 1080p resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels) and is powered by an octa-core MediaTek MT6795 chipset clocked at 2.2GHz and fitted with 3GB of RAM and 16GB of built-in memory (expandable via microSD card slot up to 64GB of internal storage).

In the photography department, users will be pleased to discover that the Uno bundles a 20MP Sony-made sensor with f/2.2 aperture. The shooter can also capture 4K footage at 30fps, 1080p at 60fps, and slow-motion 720p at 120fps.

The selfie taker unit located up in front is of the 8MP variety. As for connectivity, we find Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, plus 4G LTE support for both AT&T and T-Mobile.

Last but not least, the handset is equipped with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box, which means you will be off the hook when it comes to updates for the time being.

If all of these specifications sound good to you, you should know that the first 250 backers of the project would receive the handset for the super affordable price of $280 / €255. The next 1,000 will have to pay a little bit more, meaning $299 / €273, while the last of Kickstarter backers will see it sell for $320 / €300.

But when the Uno launches officially, Ubik will be marketing it for $345 / €315, so you’d better hurry up if you want one. The startup hopes to start shipping units out in September.
