14 DAY TRIAL // Nolan North has used a public appearance to confirm that Naughty Dog was actively working on The Last of Us 2 at the moment but the development process might not be too advanced, given that Troy Baker, the voice of main character Joel, says that he knows nothing about such a project.
During a panel at the Indy Pop Con, he explains that "I know nothing. I don’t know if we’re going to do another one or not. If we do, then I trust Neil and Bruce and everyone at Naughty Dog to tell a story that needs to be told."
Troy Baker believes the original The Last of Us can exist on its own as a video game that blends solid gameplay and a lot of emotion and shows what the medium can deliver.
The voice actor does believe that other installments in the series might focus on the way the two characters behaved and interacted with the world during the years when the video game does not follow their actions.
He also suggests that he would be interested to play The Last of Us 2 even if the development team at Naughty Dog decided to create a narrative that focuses on new protagonists and does not feature either Joel or Ellie.
Naughty Dog is at the moment focused on Uncharted 4
Nolan North did not offer any sort of details about the new The Last of Us and said that he is not involved with the project in any way.
At the moment the development team at Naughty Dog is using all its resources to finish Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, which is set to be launched on the PlayStation 4 at some point during the first quarter of 2016.
The E3 2015 demo for the title looked very good, and this is the final installment in the series.
The effort associated with Uncharted 4 probably means that a new The Last of Us will not be officially announced until 2016, which means that the launch window will probably be linked to 2017.
Until then fans of the game will have to rely on rumors and on Nolan North to get more information about the core mechanics and the story associated with it.
