14 DAY TRIAL // The Warhammer theme means that a lot of changes are coming to the traditional mechanics of the Total War series, and the development team at The Creative Assembly is ready to offer more details about the Lords that will lead each of the included factions.
Gamers can use them as classic generals, in order to lead the armies that move across the campaign map and to gain bonuses for their other troops, with each of them focused on either magic or classic might.
The Creative Assembly explains in an official blog that "Wizard Lords will have access to a magical lore specific to their race, and will draw on the Winds of Magic to cast their spells. Melee Lords are hardier and more powerful fighters and you’ll want to make use of that prowess in battle. There will also be some Lords that operate like hybrids of the two, exhibiting strengths in both melee and magic."
Lords in Total War: Warhammer can also lead fleets, but the developers explain that auto-resolve will be used for all naval battles.
The special characters can be used as overseers for one province, governing to the best of their abilities and leading the defensive effort if the capital is under attack.
Total War: Warhammer also features Heroes
The Heroes, despite their name, will be able to perform assassinations, sabotage and other underhanded tactics, but they can also be attached to armies to appear on the battlefield as a powerful unit.
The Legendary Lords are the named leaders linked to the lore of Warhammer, who have a special unique skill, which is linked to the narrative of the game, that they can develop and bring a lot more power to the battlefield.
All Total War: Warhammer characters can use up to six magic items, most of them earned through battle or via events.
Gamers will have a choice of two Legendary Lords when they start a campaign, and their decision will influence the flow of the game.
More such characters will be delivered both for free and as DLC once Total War: Warhammer is launched.
The Creative Assembly also suggests that it will be possible to fill an army with Lords and try to see how they fare against a more classic army with normal units.
The strategy game is expected to arrive on the PC in 2016.
