Probably the fastest SSD mankind has ever built

When it comes to SSD performance built for data centers and industrial use, few companies manage to surpass Intel's solid state drives. With versions built for consumers and others for companies and corporate use, it's clear which one is better. In this case, the newest DC P3608 it's not only better, it's the best.

Introduced recently in a quiet manner, Intel's new family of SSDs is probably the best storage solution for servers among very few others. Featuring 4TB capacity while offering up to 5GB/s sequential read speed, the new series is probably one of the best, if not the best SSDs in the industry. Obviously, it is not for consumer use, so don't even bother thinking of owning one, as it's rather dedicated to databases and real-time analytics.

The new Intel DC P3608 SSDs work based on two NVMe controllers working in RAID 0 mode and Intel's high-endurance multi-level cell NAND flash memory based on the 20 nm manufacturing process. The speed obviously comes from the two controllers that process two times more NVMe commands than one, so it better distributes IO over multi-core microprocessors. Similar to other enterprise-class SSDs, the DC P3608 offers a full range of data protection and ECC on all internal and external memory components.

It's fast and utterly unaffordable

The reason the DC P3608 is a series is its coming in different capacities: in 1.6TB, 3.2TB and 4TB storage sizes. The maximum read/write of the new P3608 is 5000MB/s and 3000MB/s, respectively, and they are available only for the 4TB version. The 1.6TB and 3.2TB versions strangely come with slower read/write speeds of 5GB/s read and 2GB/s write for the 1.6TB and 4.5GB/s read and 2.6MB/s write for the 3.2TB. The SSD can perform a whopping 850,000 IOPS read and 50,000 IOPS write. The drive uses PCI Express x8 interface so its NVMe protocols can be compatible with all modern servers.

Price-wise, the new series reflects its incredible performance, the DC P3608 1.6TB will cost $3509 (€3138), the DC P3608 3.2TB is priced at $7009 (€6269) while the top-tier DC P3608 4TB will be available for $8759 (€7835).
