MSI's new headset doesn't make compromises

MSI decided to start its gaming headphones business and is doing it in style. Featuring a 7.1 virtual surround sound, it promises to go toe-to-toe with Creative and Kingston.

The new MSI DS502 gaming headsets are built for gaming and offer no compromise to quality materials and features. Built with premium quality in mind, the new lightweight headsets are ergonomically designed, which allows for a self-adjusting headband, guaranteeing a comfortable fit during extended gaming sessions.

With comfort being assured, MSI wants to make sure the sound quality is top notch. In this regard, the official specs show a frequency response of 20Hz-20KHz, with a sensitivity of 105±3dB @ 1KHz. The speakers impedance is 32 Ω.

MSI didn't forget about perfectionist customers so the Cmedia Xear software from MSI will come bundled with the headphones. The app includes a 10-band equalizer so more tweak-minded users can fiddle with the software and get the best sound possible out of the headset.

MSI wants to go directly for the professional gaming scene

Obviously, the new headset comes with a microphone as well, because how else will you yell at your clanmates in times of dire need. The mic is omnidirectional and also has noise-calling features, offering an impedance of ≤2.2k Ω.

You also have in-line controls, because nobody will turn down the volume via the Windows sound control when fragging players in Counter Strike, and for fancy looks MSI slapped their fancy dragon logo on the ear cups.

We'll see how the new earphones will compare to the current gaming headphone market leaders: Creative and Kingston, but since the new headset from MSI is still unavailable, it's hard to make an assessment until the actual product is launched.

It's good to know that features like leather-covered ear buns and generally softer materials are desired by today's gamers that play for prolonged periods of time since it stops ear pains or other long time discomfort.

There's no price tag for the new MSI DS502 units at the moment, but they'll probably come at a sub-$100 anyhow.
