By contrast, the Nexus 6P does have this cable

Google fans have probably been ecstatic this week because they favorite company has recently unveiled not one, but two Nexus devices, the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P.

While the two phones can’t be considered such a major upgrade compared to last year’s devices, they still come with some nifty additions like fingerprint scanners and reversible USB Type-C ports.

But now that the Nexus models have been listed in the Google Play Store, it has been noticed that the Nexus 5X retail box lacks a cable that will allow it to connect to a computer. That means that those purchasing an LG-made Nexus 5X will have to buy another accessory cable in order to transfer apps, files or debug apps.

Did Google omit to add the cable by mistake?

The official Nexus 5X product page says that the phone bundle arrives with three additional items, including a 15W USB Type-C charger and a USB Type-C to USB Type-C cable to be used to charge the phone (one end enters the charger and one the phone). There’s also a SIM tool. But what’s missing from the equation is a USB Type-C USB Standard-A cable, which is to be used to connect the phone to desktops and laptops.

Interestingly enough, if we check out the Nexus 6P retail bundle, we can’t help but notice that the pesky USB Type-C USB Standard-A cable is offered here. Could it be because this is the higher-end model?

While the cable missing from the Nexus 5X retail box is a nuisance, you can get one pretty easily from Google itself. But you’re going to have to throw another $12 / €10 or so out the window.

The phone might be sold for only $380 / €340 outright, but add the cable bill on top of that and the Nexus 5X almost hits the $400 / €358 mark. To sooth your wounds, the search giant has announced that, in the US, all pre-orders for the Nexus 5X will come with a free $50 / €45 Google Play store card. Hopefully, this will help you get over the omission in the retail box.

If you haven’t heard yet, the Nexus 5X is a 5.2-inch phone with 1080p resolution that lives off a hexa-core Snapdragon 808 processor with Adreno 418 graphics processing unit and 2GB of RAM in combination with 16GB/32GB of internal storage.
