Electronic Arts has just announced that Star Wars Battlefront is their biggest digital launch and that a new Free DLC will arrive in just two weeks’ time.

There is no doubt that Star Wars Battlefront is a success for Electronic Arts, and the publisher is now preparing for a long campaign of DLCs that will bring new contents to the game. As DLCs go, the publisher is starting with the right foot by releasing The Battle of Jakku for free in just a couple of weeks.

The developers and the publishers got some criticism after the launch of the full game because only four maps are provided by default. More will be coming with upcoming DLCs, which can be purchased individually or with a season pass, which costs almost like the game itself. You might start to see why the community is not happy about this arrangement.

By releasing The Battle of Jakku for free, the number of maps goes up to six, which makes things a little bit more interesting, not to mention that there will be a new mode.

Tie-in with Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Jakku is the desert planet that can be observed in the numerous trailers that have been released until now for Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the new DLC comes out in two weeks, just in time for the premiere of the new movie.

“Taking place 29 years before the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens™, The Battle of Jakku is a free DLC pack* that adds two new maps (including one for popular modes like Walker Assault and Supremacy) and a new mode to the game. The coolest thing is that it’s the only place you’ll be able to experience the pivotal events that help shape the look of one of the next iconic planets in the Star Wars universe,” Patrick Söderlund said.

Even more good news is that more free content will arrive in the coming months, in the form of new maps and Star Cards, so there will be more than just paid DLCs for the Star Wars Battlefront fans.
