Video game developer CD Projekt is announcing that it is now giving gamers the option of picking up a new official Modkit for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which is designed to allow them to tweak a range of elements of the game in however way they see fit.

The official announcement explains, "Thanks to texture import and export, gamers can now modify the looks and feel of in-game objects while the possibility of substituting meshes allows to insert new models in the game world in place of existing ones."

The Modkit is also offering access to script files, and that means gamers can tweak item statistics and character behavior, creating new adventures for Geralt or simply modifying existing ones to improve them.

The official site for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt mods is Nexusmods, and gamers need to head to it in order to get both the extractor for the new tools and some already created modifications that show the extent of what it can do.

CD Projekt RED makes it clear that the tools included in the Modkit are not equal to an editor, which means that gamers need some experience with modding in order to use them effectively, but the company is also offering documentation on the official forums for newcomers.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt offers fertile ground for modding

The fact that the developers are offering sanctioned mod tools is a good way to support the community in its efforts and to ensure that the game extends its appeal.

CD Projekt RED has already delivered a range of free downloadable content for The Witcher 3, including a new New Game+ mode, and patches have also been regularly deployed.

The studio is also working on two expansions for the open-world experience, one of which is expected to arrive before the end of the year.

CD Projekt is not saying whether it plans to deliver more extensive mod tools in the future in order to allow gamers to create even more complex content for the game.

It's also unclear whether any of the modifications created by the fans will be offered to those who picked up The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on the PlayStation 4 or the Xbox One.
