14 DAY TRIAL // Matthias Klumpp has announced that version 4 of his Tanglu Linux distribution has entered development and a first Alpha build is now available for download and testing.
According to the release notes, Tanglu 4 Alpha is full of changes. The operating system is distributed in three main editions: Tanglu KDE with the latest KDE Plasma 5.4 desktop environment; Tanglu GNOME featuring the recently released GNOME 3.18 desktop environment with Wayland for the login manager; and Tanglu Core.
All Tanglu 4 Alpha flavors are powered by the latest and most advanced Linux kernel available at the moment of the release, version 4.2, and use some of the hottest GNU/Linux technologies available, including systemd 227, Calamares graphical installer, and numerous packages from the upstream Debian Testing repositories.
"We are pleased to announce the release of the first development release of Tanglu 4, which includes Tanglu-KDE, Tanglu-GNOME and Tanglu Core," says Matthias Klumpp. "This alpha release contains many changes - it also marks the point where the GCC 5 transition is completed (except for some minor follow-up transitions)."
The GCC 5 transition is now complete
Probably the biggest feature of this release is that the Tanglu developers have managed to complete the transition to the GCC (GNU Compiler Collection) 5 toolkit. However, users are being informed that several packages have been removed from all editions in order to successfully complete the GCC 5 transition, as well as to pave the way for some other upcoming transitions.
Tanglu 4 Alpha was made available for those who want to see what's coming in the GNU/Linux distribution, but it is not suitable for deployment on production machine where stability is of the essence.
