TAG Heuer, Google, and Intel Launch “Connected,” the First Swiss Luxury Smartwatch

If you’re into smartwatches and want something that really helps stand out from a crowd, here’s something that truly does that: Connected, TAG Heuer’s luxury smartwatch that was created in partnership with Google and Intel, was launched by the involved parties in a grandiose event in New York.

Although a smartwatch, Connected looks a lot like the other TAG Heuer watches and is very similar to the TAG Heuer Carrera - Heuer 01, which features a similar design of the case but is completely mechanical.

On the other hand, Connected is the result of a partnership between TAG Heuer, Google, and Intel, so the electronic internals belong to the last two while the first contributed with the design.

And speaking of design, Connected features a titanium grade 2 case, horizontal and vertical fine-brushed titanium lugs, 3D-raised and fine-brushed numerals, “TAG Heuer Connected“ lettering engraved with silver lacquer, and sandblasted, carbide-coated titanium bezel with anti-fingerprint coating.

In other words, it features exclusive TAG Heuer engraving, a titanium case, plus a titanium bezel that features anti-fingerprint protection, so no matter how much you use it, it will always be crystal clear.

The circular LCD display is 1.5-inch large and features a screen resolution of 360x360 pixels, while the strap is made of vulcanized rubber with grade 2 titanium folding clasp. The band is available in seven colors, namely green, blue, orange, red, white, black, and yellow.

Smartwatch capabilities

Although it’s clearly impressive in terms of design, the TAG Heuer Connected isn’t quite the most advanced smartwatch on the market. It features a 1.6 GHz dual-core processor, 1 GB of RAM, a 410 mAh battery which, the company says, can provide 25 hours of autonomy, 4 GB of storage, and support for both Android and iOS.

The device runs Android Wear, which is still missing some key smartwatch functionalities, and includes several sensors, such as a gyroscope, tilt detection sensor, microphone, and haptic engine.

It doesn’t have GPS, a heart rate monitor, or a speaker, so all notifications that you receive are exclusively vibrations.

And because we’re very sure that you’re interested in the price, the Connected will be available in the US and Canada starting this week at $1,500 (1,395 EUR), while the other countries will get it the next month.

The same price also brings you access to the so-called “connected to eternity” service, which allows you to return your watch after two years, pay another $1,500 and get a mechanical TAG Heuer watch that can last for life. You’ll also receive some special faces designed with brand ambassadors, such as Leonardo DiCaprio and Cara Delevingne.
