The VectorLinux developers were euphoric to announce today, June 27, the immediate availability for download of the final release of the VectorLinux 7.1 operating system derived from Slackware.

According to the announcement, it would appear that VectorLinux 7.1 is a major release powered by a long-term kernel, Linux 3.18.16, and built around the latest version of Xfce, a lightweight, open-source desktop environment.

Moreover, VectorLinux 7.1 comes with an easy-to-use installer that lets users install the Slackware-based operating system without too much hassle using either a graphical or command-line interface.

The VectorLinux team also added the Fluxbox window manager for those of you who want to have a lighter VectorLinux 7.1 installation for low-end machines or computers with old and semi-old hardware components.

"The VectorLinux team is proud to announce the final release of VectorLinux 7.1! This release is the culmination of years of work to make our distro the standard which all others hope to achieve," reads the announcement.

All VectorLinux packages are now up-to-date, always

With this announcement, the developers of the VectorLinux operating system are happy to report that they've successfully completed the automation of their internal package system, so that the distribution can always have the latest software updates.

Last but not least, the VectorLinux software repository contains now thousands of programs that can be easily installed using the well-known slaptget and gslapt tools. Those of you who want to install bigger desktop environments like KDE or GNOME can do so using the default repos.

Download VectorLinux 7.1 right now from Softpedia. Please note that this is the STD (Standard Edition) flavor and it is currently distributed as installable-only ISO images for both 32- and 64-bit computers. More editions of VectorLinux are available on the project's website.
