Microsoft demonstrated earlier this year one of the most innovative features ever created by the company, which allows users to talk in two different languages on Skype and let the service do the translation all automatically.

The so-called Skype Translator is now directly integrated in the Skype for Windows desktop client, which means that you can talk to your contacts from any PC as long as it runs Windows. Previously, the service was only available as a separate app that required to be installed on Windows 8.

The new built-in Skype Translator feature for Skype for Windows supports six voice languages, namely English, French, German, Italian, Mandarin, and Spanish, but also 50 different languages that can be used for texting. The translation is performed in real time, so it's extremely easy to talk to someone who speaks a different language.

“Now, you have even more reasons to chat with people around the world – bringing together family, friends, and students. This opens up a whole new world of possibilities to do even more together across not only distances, but also languages,” Microsoft says.

Not available for everyone at the moment

Although Skype has already updated the Windows client, the new feature won't become available to everyone right away, as Microsoft is releasing it gradually to users across the world.

Microsoft says that it could take several weeks before you get to see the Translator tool in Skype, but once it becomes available, everything should work just like in the video at the end of the article. To find out when the new feature is ready for you, look for the Skype Translator icon in the right top corner of your conversation window, just like in the screenshot here.

Overall, this feature clearly comes in handy to those who want to get rid of the language barrier, so go ahead and download the updated Skype client for Windows right now to see if it's ready for you already.
