The PlayStation 4 has managed to become the most successful of the new generation of consoles and it seems that Sony is ready to take fans back into the history of the platform in order to boost that position in the coming months and years.

Shuhei Yoshida, who is the leader of the Worldwide Studios, is quoted by VG247 as saying that a lot of internal teams are working on cool titles for the device, and there's a possibility that one of them is a revival of the classic Wipeout racing experience.

According to the executive, Sony is always evaluating what the balance needs to be between entirely new game universes and new takes on some of the classic franchises that have appeared on older PlayStation consoles.

He explains that "There are many IPs that we kind of stopped iterating with new games. One of the reasons is we always love to work on new IP. From my standpoint, I try to balance the number of games in a franchise. In the future, there might be a chance to come back to a game like Wipeout."

Wipeout might get a re-launch because Sony has the power to decide when to launch a new game, but it seems that for Crash Bandicoot, a franchise that has an equally dedicated fan base, only Activision can greenlight a new title.

The PlayStation 4 needs some major exclusive titles to stand up to the Xbox One

Syphon Filter studio, which has been in charge of Wipeout, is at the moment working on a new cool title that has not been announced and it seems that even Shuhei Yoshida cannot talk about it for the moment.

The PlayStation 4 home console is at the moment outselling the Xbox One in both North America and worldwide, but the device might have a problem during the holiday season because of a limited number of exclusives.

Microsoft is relying on titles like Halo 5: Guardians, Rise of the Tomb Raider and the recently launched Forza Motorsport 6.

On the other hand, Sony is associating the PlayStation 4 with major titles like Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 and Assassin's Creed: Syndicate, offering gamers extra content and some cool bundles.
