South Koreans looking to give iFans more watch choices

Samsung’s Gear S2 smartwatch is an amazing device that comes with an impressive set of features, despite the fact that it runs Tizen (and not Android Wear, as most of the new smartwatches out there do), but it lacks one very important option: support for iOS devices.

But the South Korean company is looking to address this as soon as possible, as it knows that rolling out iOS support could help boost its sales among Apple customers looking for something else besides the Apple Watch.

A report by SamMobile reveals that Samsung is now working around the clock to launch an update for the Gear Manager app that would allow the S2 watch to be used with an iPhone.

As you can find out in our Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch review, the device works beautifully with Android phones, and if you already have a Samsung phone, this is a match made in heaven. You get all the features that both the phone and the smartwatch can provide you with right now, including customization options and other settings.

iPhone support

But when the Gear S2 finally gets support for iOS devices, some features will still be unavailable, so going for a Samsung phone will still be the best option for those who want to make the most of the smartwatch.

For instance, the choice of watch faces is still expected to be limited, while notification support might come with some restrictions as well, despite the fact that this is clearly one of the essential features that could arrive with such a device.

Samsung wants to bring support on iOS before the arrival of Apple Watch 2 in order to benefit from the growing appetite of Apple customers for such devices, as it’s well aware that, once the new model arrives, it’s hard to capitalize on this demand.

The Watch 2 is believed to make its public debut in the spring, so Samsung still has a few months to complete work on iOS support for the Gear S2.
