Samsung, in collaboration with certain carriers, has started rolling the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge in certain territories.

But earlier last month, we also told you that the South Korean company was testing Android 5.1.1 Lollipop for more devices, including the Galaxy Note 4. The new software was said to land on the handset by the end of July.

Well, we have just stepped into July and we’re already hearing encouraging news from Galaxy Note 4 owners. A screenshot coming out of Russia provided by the folks of Sam Mobile reveals that the phablet is in the process of getting the update in the country.

The new software is going to make its way in the wild slowly

The complete changelog hasn’t been provided just yet, but surely, we’re going to see a lot of bug fixes and performance enhancements arrive on board. But keep in mind that, even if some Galaxy Note 4 units are getting Android 5.1.1 in Russia, it might be some time before carriers in the US and Europe pick up the new build and offer it for their respective devices.

Originally launched at IFA 2014, the Galaxy Note 4 shipped out with Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box. And now the phablet is being readied to receive the latest update.

After Samsung is done updating its flagship phones to the latest standard, it will probably be time to start working on the Android M. Even as we expect the Galaxy Note 5 to make an appearance into the wild in a few months during the same event in Berlin, the Galaxy Note 4 will probably be eligible to receive Android M.

The phone made a debut with a 5.7-inch AMOLED display with 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution (515ppi) and with a Snapdragon 805 chipset under the hood. The phablet is complemented with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. As you can see, the device is pretty well specced even for today’s standards.

And the good news is that the phablet is bound to get even better with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop on board. Keep an eye on your phone, and let us know if you’ve received a notification alerting you that the new build has become available.
