Unofficial ROMs are already available for the tablet

Although Samsung doesn't usually announce which devices will receive major Android updates and which will remain on their current version of the OS, this time the South Korean company made an exception.

Samsung Mobile UK has just confirmed that Galaxy Tab Pro won't be receiving official Android Lollipop or Marshmallow updates in the future.

Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 was launched last year in February with Android 4.4 KitKat operating system onboard. The tablet is actively supported by CyanogenMod, so owners of the tablet can upgrade to Marshmallow anytime they want, just not using an official ROM.

It's unclear why Samsung decided to stop supporting the Galaxy Tab Pro, especially that the tablet packs decent specs and it's not even that old.

You can still upgrade to Marshmallow using unofficial ROMs

For those unfamiliar, the Galaxy Tab Pro comes equipped with a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, an Adreno 330 graphics processing unit and 2GB of RAM.

Keep in mind that the confirmation is only available for Galaxy Tab Pro tablets sold in the UK, so if you're located in another country, there's a slight chance that your slate might be upgraded to Lollipop or Marshmallow.

However, we doubt that Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro will receive any major updates in the future regardless of the country.

There have been lots of rumors regarding Samsung's Android 6.0 Marshmallow update roadmap, but the handset maker has yet to confirm any of the information included in these leaks.

Some high-end smartphones always appear on these lists with devices eligible for Android 6.0 Marshmallow updates, such as Samsung Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy S6 edge+ and Galaxy Note 5.

Still, many claim that Samsung doesn't use such lists and they are fake. Even so, we're still waiting for the South Korean handset maker to announce when it will kick off the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update rollout.
