14 DAY TRIAL // We've been informed that the Steam Hardware & Software Survey for November 2015 has been published by Valve, which shows us that the Linux platform continues to grow at a slow pace.
Every month, Valve conducts a survey of the operating system, hardware and software used by Steam users to play games on its acclaimed digital game store for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and GNU/Linux platforms. Therefore, you can now access the Steam Hardware & Software Survey for November 2015.
Unfortunately, the Steam for Linux usage is growing slowly, and it does not manage to get over 1% (0.98%), with only a 0.03% growth during the month of November, despite the fact that Valve officially launched its Linux-powered Steam Machines on November 10, 2015.
The survey also shows that Linux users prefer to play their games on the Ubuntu Linux operating system. Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS (Trusty Tahr) is leading the pack with 22.29%, followed by the new Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf), which is now at 14.74%, Linux Mint 17.2 (Rafaela) at 10.64%, and Ubuntu 15.04 (Vivid Vervet) at 6.61%.
Almost 1,700 games on Steam for Linux
On the other hand, the good news is that it looks like there are more and more Steam games with support for the Linux platform, as Steam now shows 1,685 titles when choosing the SteamOS + Linux filter. At this rate, we will have over 1,700 Linux games on Steam by the end of 2015.
That being said, we do hope that Valve manages to sell even more of those Steam Machines in December, and the next survey will show that the Linux platform can once again grow over that 1%, which is extremely low, considering the fact that over 95% of players use Microsoft Windows.
