The two titles have very different identities

Patrick Bach, the general manager of developer DICE, says that his company has been criticized for making Star Wars: Battlefront both too much and too little like its better-known Battlefield series since the new title was officially announced.

But the two experiences appeal to different audiences, and the company does not want to increase similarities between them.

In an interview quoted by NeoGAF, the executive explains that Battlefield already has a history with a long legacy and does not want it to be expanded with a Star Wars skin.

Bach adds, "We came at it from a very different angle. We know that the core audience of a game like this is different to the Battlefield audience. There’s a crossover, but Star Wars fans expect a Star Wars game, not a Battlefield game. We looked at what Star Wars stands for, rather than asking how can we tweak Battlefield to be something else."

DICE has been busy showing Star Wars: Battlefront to as many gamers as possible so that they can see its core features and how it stands on its own.

The shooter will offer a variety of modes, with the developers at the moment focusing on Walker Assault and Survival, which have no direct counterpart in the Battlefield series.

A recent leak also says that gamers will be able to engage in Heroes vs. Villains, Cargo, Blast and Drop Zone.

Star Wars: Battlefront does not feature space battles or the Death Star

DICE has said that it is focused on the original movie trilogy and that it will allow gamers to take part in the battles that were shown or mentioned by the characters.

Star Wars: Battlefront will not allow gamers to control AT-ATs directly, and the iconic Star Destroyers will also exist on the periphery of combat, and gamers will be unable to take them down.

Patrick Bach suggests that the scope of the shooter might be expanded via downloadable content.

The first pack, called The Battle of Jakku and linked to The Force Awakens, will be launched on December 1 for those who pre-order, and one week later for the rest of the community.

Star Wars: Battlefront will be out on November 17, and the title can be played on the PC, the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4.
