Star Wars Battlefront had a smooth launch on all platforms, and the development team at DICE and publisher Electronic Arts are ready to deliver the first piece of major post-launch content for the shooter, called Battle of Jakku and designed to offer a link to the coming Star Wars: The Force Awakens movie.

Those who place a pre-order for the title before launch will be able to get it tomorrow, December 1, for free while the rest of the community will get access to the same package one week later, on December 8, also without paying anything.

The Battle of Jakku DLC is designed to put gamers in the middle of the action in one of the biggest confrontations between the New Republic, which has already managed to establish itself, and some powerful Imperial forces that are making a last stand against its expansion.

The engagement takes place on a planet that will play a role in the coming The Force Awakens movie, and fans of the series will be able to see how the special landscape they will see on the big screen has been created.

Battle of Jakku for Star Wars Battlefront will introduce two new maps although just one of them has been highlighted by the developers, and a new Turning Point mode, all of which are featured in the recently released trailer.

The new experience allows 40 gamers to take part in combat, with the Rebels asked to take over three increasingly difficult checkpoints under time pressure.

The Graveyard of Giants map will also support gamers looking to play Supremacy, Walker Assault, and Fighter Squadron.

The smaller Goazan Badlands is better suited for Blast, Drop Zone, Droid Run, Cargo, Hero Hunt, and Heroes vs. Villains.

More free maps and Star Cards are also coming to Star Wars Battlefront

Once Battle of Jakku is offered for all players, the development team at DICE will focus its long-term efforts on the delivery of paid downloadable content for the shooter, with four of them planned for 2016 and covered by the Season Pass.

The studio has promised that gamers will get access to four new heroes and villains although no names have been offered yet.

16 extra maps linked to the four planets are also coming, as well as four unique game modes.

DICE has also signaled that it wants to add some more free maps, although no launch dates have been mentioned, and the Star Cards system will also be expanded to give players more options on the battlefield.

Patrick Soderlund, who leads the team working on Star Wars Battlefront, says that his team is very happy with the involvement of the player base and wants to make sure that they get the best possible experience, which means delivering more patches to improve balance and eliminate bugs.

The developers and Electronic Arts have already said that they plan sequels for the shooter, which probably means that they are planning to explore content associated with the second movie trilogy and the coming Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
