The launch of Star Wars Battlefront has been a solid one for both developer DICE and publisher Electronic Arts, and the two companies are saying that they are planning to reward the dedicated player community with some free extra content in the coming months.

On the official site, Patrick Soderlund, the executive vice president of EA Studios, explains that this is the best release-day performance for any title linked to the franchise and the biggest digital launch ever for his company.

He says that the Star Wars Battlefront player community has been delivering some great moments, using the core features of the title in impressive and innovative ways.

The executive explains that the coming Battle of Jakku downloadable content is just the first step in a long-term support plan designed to reward gamers for the time they spend with the shooter.

Soderlund adds, "we are also planning to support Star Wars Battlefront with new content well into the future. We will be adding more of what you love about the game, like new maps and Star Cards, for free in the coming months, in addition to all of the content we have coming with Season Pass. We’ll have more to share soon."

The announcement represents great news for those who picked up Star Wars Battlefront and are slowly discovering the limits of the shooter and its streamlined mechanics.

DICE has not announced when it might deliver the free maps and Star Cards and how they will interact with the content that will be included in the paid DLC deliveries.

Star Wars Battlefront might include The Force Awakens content

The Battle of Jakku is free for all those who bought the game and can be played on December 1 on the PC, the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 by those who placed a pre-order and one week later by all those who have not.

This will be the first time that gamers will be able to travel to the planet that plays an important part in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and see how its unique landscape was created.

The newly included mode is called Turning Point, and the Graveyard of Giants battleground will feature one of the most impressive sights in the shooter, a Super Star Destroyer that comes crashing down as the Empire and the Rebels engage with one another.

DICE and Electronic Arts are already selling a full Season Pass for Star Wars Battlefront, which will grant gamers access to four DLC deliveries in 2016.

The two companies explain that they are introducing 16 new maps, four unique modes and four more options for those who want to play as iconic heroes and villains.

So far no details about them have been offered, and many fans are hoping that at least some of the additions are linked to the coming The Force Awakens movie, even if the focus of Star Wars Battlefront has been on the original trilogy and its iconic characters.
