Suman Chakravartula informs us today about the immediate availability for download of the Rockstor 3.8-11 free and open-source NAS (Network Attached Storage) solution based on GNU/Linux technologies.

Rockstor 3.8-11 is the third stable update in the 3.8 series, bringing all sorts of improvements to make the software more reliable and secure. Among the most important changes, we can mention multiple enhancements to the Rock-Ons system, which has just received support for third-party Rock-Ons.

Two new Rock-Ons, Jenkins and Discourse, have been added in Rockstor 3.8-11, and the entire Rock-Ons system has been made simpler and more robust. The Rockstor devs promise users even more improvements like these in upcoming releases of the software project.

"I am happy to announce the release of Rockstor 3.8-11. This is our third release in the Stable updates channel and I’d like to thank subscribers for their support," says Suman Chakravartula. "Altogether, we closed 24 issues, 11 more compared to last cycle. There are two significant changes I’d like to highlight."

Web UI enhancements, bugfixes

In addition to the Rock-Ons improvements, the Web UI (web-based interface) has seen a significant amount of enhancements as well, as the team has managed to redesign all existing templates using handlebars, as well as to revamp the entire templating system. The result? A faster, readable, simpler and leaner Web UI.

There are many other improvements implemented in the third stable release of Rockstor 3.8, and many of those annoying bugs reported by users since the previous build have been fixed, especially those related to S.M.A.R.T., SSL certificates management, and NUT (Network UPS Tools).

As usual, existing Rockstor users can now upgrade to the 3.8-11 maintenance release using the built-in updater utility while new users can download the Rockstor 3.8-11 ISO images right now via Softpedia or directly from the project's website, where they'll find all the information they need to get started with Rockstor.
