The single-player element of the shooter will be expanded

The development team at Respawn Entertainment has been working on Titanfall 2 for some time now, but the company has failed to deliver too many details about the coming shooter, the kind of story that it plans to explore or the core new features that will be introduced.

Jesse Stern, the lead writer, working on the project, is suggesting that the team will pay more attention to the story side of the experience, exploring themes of global colonial warfare that involves concepts associated with the American Revolution and the subsequent Civil War.

He is quoted by GamingBolt as saying that, "We imagined the next generation of immigrants moving out to the new frontier of an inhabitable planet. Rather than taking a traditional sci-fi approach to that we wanted to look at how that would happen practically, what the ships would look like and with machines that were designed for excavation and construction , demolition and working the land, and what happens when they are turned into instruments of war."

It's unclear how extensive the single-player campaign for Titanfall 2 will be or whether the development team at Respawn Entertainment and publisher Electronic Arts will once again emphasize the multiplayer elements of the shooter.

According to Jesse Stern, his team has been working on the experience for a little more than a year and the game will be content complete before the end of 2016 or early next year.

Electronic Arts has not made an official announcement about a launch date, but the company has made it clear that Titanfall 2 can be played on the PC, the Xbox One from Microsoft and the PlayStation 4 from Sony.

The original installment in the series was only offered on the Microsoft platform and on the PC, which some feel placed some limits on its ability to reach shooter fans.

Titanfall 2 will refine the core ideas of the original installment

Respawn is made up of many developers who worked on the very successful Call of Duty franchise for Activision and split with the company very publicly after a compensation-related conflict.

Titanfall was designed to expand the limits of the shooter genre, with an emphasis on vertical movement, a Smart Pistol that was able to track enemy targets, and the addition of big mechs that could quickly turn the tide of an engagement.

The pilots emphasize fast movement and reactions while the Titans are slower and need to carefully work with teammates to have a clear impact on the battle and secure a win for their team.

Unfortunately, the single-player element of the title was very limited and, despite the delivery of plenty of downloadable content packs after launch, many members of the community expected to see more variety.

More than 10 million gamers have played the original Titanfall since it was launched, and the move to new platforms will mean that a sequel is better placed to generate solid sales for Electronic Arts.

An official announcement about both mechanics and a launch date might take place during E3 2016.
