Easy deployment of containerized applications

This past weekend, Red Hat Inc. had the great pleasure of announcing the general availability of the Beta release of the upcoming Red Hat Container Development Kit (CDK) 2 software suite.

Built around the Vagrant open-source software, a tool that lets users build, configure and deploy virtual environments, Red Hat's Container Development Kit 2 suite has been designed from the offset to ease the creation and deployment of containerized applications across multiple platforms.

With Container Development Kit 2, you will be able to build containerized apps and deploy them across GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows operating systems, as well as Red Hat certified container hosts like OpenShift Enterprise 3, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux Atomic Host much more easily.

"We’re pleased to announce today that the second version of the Red Hat Container Development Kit (CDK) is now available in beta. The CDK is designed to simplify the configuration and setup of Linux container development environments and provides an on-ramp to building container-based applications," said Red Hat.

Highlights of Red Hat Container Development Kit 2

Prominent features of Red Hat Container Development Kit 2 include support for extra hypervisors, such as VMWare, the Image Factory tool for converting and importing virtual machine disk images into Docker containers, as well as Red Hat’s Atomic App, a reference implementation, containerized version of the Nulecule specification.

The original Nulecule specification is also supported in Red Hat Container Development Kit 2, allowing developers to package multi-container and complex applications into a unified container that includes their orchestration metadata and dependencies, using defined models and patterns.

The Beta version of Red Hat Container Development Kit 2 is available right now for partners and customers that have an active Red Hat Enterprise Linux Developer subscription or have enrolled in Red Hat's Connect for Technology Partners program.
