We've been informed earlier today, October 28, by Arne Exton that there's a new version of his RaspEX GNU/Linux distribution, updated to the recently released Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) operating system.

According to Mr. Exton, RaspEX Build 151027 was created on October 27, 2015, it is based on Canonical's brand new Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) OS and includes multiple elements from the popular Debian GNU/Linux 8.1 (Jessie) operating system.

This build of the RaspEX should be considered a total revamp from previous revisions of the GNU/Linux distribution designed from the offset to be deployed on Raspberry Pi 2 single-board computers (SBCs).

"My first version of RaspEX is from 150318 and my second from 150706. I have now upgraded the whole system," says Arne Exton in an email to Softpedia. "RaspEX is a Linux ARM system for Raspberry Pi 2. It is based on Debian Jessie (Debian 8.1), Ubuntu Wily Werewolf (Ubuntu 15.10, released 151022) and Linaro (Open Source software for ARM SoCs)."

Wicd network manager is now preinstalled

Besides being rebased on the Ubuntu 15.10 and Debian GNU/Linux 8.1 operating systems, RaspEX Build 151027 comes pre-installed with the popular Wicd network manager.

It also adds support for the Adobe Flash Player plugin the Chromium web browser, so you can watch YouTube and Netflix, and it includes the Samba, SSH (Secure Shell), and VNC4Server for those who want to connect easily to their Windows computers.

Best of all, it is also possible to control the RaspEX operating system installed on a Raspberry Pi 2 device if you install any VNC Viewer software or any other Telnet/SSH client, such as Putty on a Windows or GNU/Linux computer on your network.

You can download RaspEX Build 151027 right now from Softpedia, and don't hesitate to check Mr. Exton's detailed installation instructions for RaspEX, just in case you decide to keep it as the default operating system for your Raspberry Pi 2 device.
