14 DAY TRIAL // The GNOME developers are still finishing the latest bits for the upcoming GNOME 3.17.4 desktop environment, a snapshot towards GNOME 3.18, and they have just released the GNOME Boxes 3.17.4 open-source virtualization software based on the QEMU with KVM technology.
According to the internal changelog, which we've attached at the end of the article for reference, GNOME Boxes 3.17.4 brings numerous improvements, including the ability to display the guest IP address on the "General" page for local virtual machines, as well as the possibility of displaying both the hostname and the IP address of remote desktop boxes in the main icon view.
A switch that allows users to disable autosaving for virtual machines has been added to the "System" page of the Properties dialog, the setup of the storage pool is now more reliable, virtual machines are now being automatically saved on default connection, and the values of text properties are now selectable.
Furthermore, the importing of libvirt-based virtual machines that use device nodes as their main storage drive has been repaired, a crash that occurred when importing system libvirt virtual machines has been patched, the transparency of both overflow and underflow indicators has been fixed, and various critical warnings on the console are now being avoided.
GNOME Boxes 3.17.4 brings many other improvements
GNOME Boxes 3.17.4 also fixes an issue that made the secondary windows to end up in all the wrong places after closing the Properties window over the main one, addresses an issue with the alignment of the Properties' resource values, adds more reliable tests for raw images, as well as smaller markers on the Properties' resource scales.
Additionally, there's now more vertical spacing added between resource scales in customization view of the application, and the Properties' labels are now being prefixed with "Display " in order to make the context more clear. GNOME Boxes now requires the libvirt-glib 0.2.2 library or later.
Last but not least, the Hebrew, Hungarian, Portuguese, Slovak, and Spanish language translations have been updated. You can download the GNOME Boxes 3.17.4 sources right now from Softpedia, but please keep in mind that this is a pre-release version and it's not suitable for production environments.
