This Monday, US President Barack Obama is poised to unveil his Clean Power Plan, an initiative to fight climate change and global warming by drastically reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Since the Clean Power Plan is yet to be officially made public, details are scarce. Still, in a video shared by the White House this past Sunday, the President reveals that it chiefly targets coal-burning power plants now up and running across the country.

These facilities produce massive amounts of carbon dioxide on a yearly basis. Since carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas, this makes them major contributors to climate change and global warming.

Word has it that, under President Barack Obama's Clean Power Act, coal-burning power plants in the US will be required to cut their carbon dioxide emissions by as much as 32% when compared to 2005 levels. The facilities will have until 2030 to comply.

Interestingly, the figure proposed by President Obama is somewhat greater than the 30% cut in carbon dioxide emissions that the country's Environmental Protection Agency proposed only last year, the Denver Post informs.

Apparently, the US President is not one to take climate change and global warming lightly, not when there is bullet-proof scientific evidence that these phenomena are a threat to our planet.

Although the Clean Power Plan has not been revealed yet, it looks like some state governors intend to fight it on the grounds that it is not legal. More information should be released in the hours to come, so keep an eye on this page for updates.
